Most people unknowingly damage their lenses every day. Here is what to do instead.
Good eyeglasses are an investment. A quality frame with coated lenses can cost several thousand rupees — and with the right care, they should last 2–3 years or more. With the wrong habits, the coating is ruined in months. Here are the ten most important things to know.
Pulling with one hand bends the frame asymmetrically over time. Both temples should come off your ears simultaneously.
Microfibre is the only material soft enough not to scratch coated lenses. Keep a clean one in your case at all times.
Dust and grit on the lens surface will scratch it when wiped dry. A quick rinse under lukewarm water removes particles first.
A hard case protects from being sat on, dropped or crushed. Soft pouches are better than nothing but offer no impact protection.
Frames shift with use. A slightly bent frame stresses the hinges and affects how lenses sit in front of your eyes. Adjustments at Eye Dive are always free.
These materials have fibres that cause micro-scratches. Over weeks, your lenses develop a haze that cannot be removed — only replaced.
Many cleaning products contain ammonia or alcohol that strip lens coatings. Use only water or a dedicated lens cleaning spray.
This scratches the lens surface directly. Always place frames face-up or in a case.
Dashboard of a parked car, near stove tops, saunas — extreme heat warps plastic frames and can crack coatings. Most frames are designed for room temperature only.
Alcohol-based sprays cloud AR coatings. Apply these products before putting on your glasses, not after.
